Hajzus' retirement accepted by Peters school board: O-R 12-6-11

McMURRAY – After being on medical leave for almost two years, Peters Township School District administrator Thomas J. Hajzus’ retirement was approved by the school board Monday.

Hajzus, the current assistant to the superintendent for operations, once served at high school principal. There was no discussion before the vote was taken to approve his retirement effective June 30.

He has been on medical leave since March 1, 2010. At the time of the leave, Hajzus cited the “massive stress” and “everyday conflicts that need attention,” along with other issues that plague school administrators as his reasons for needing time off.

Hmm...sometimes the SAME things keep happening. Old news but Sad news:

Zetty goes away on retreat last weak to Nemacolin with a cost of?
Zetty refuses to permit 2 HS admin to go on same type of retreat this week with no cost to district. But hey, SHE wanted to go.

Last June, Zetty tells admin no caps and gowns for administrators to walk at graduation to save money.
Someone said it was very low cost but she still said no. BUT, hey she got HERSELF a cap and gown, then refused to get them for the admin. and even the assistant superintendent The former HS principal ordered them for
the HS Admin and counselors without her permission so at least they would look presentable. Stay tuned...

Saving money..is for the convenience..of this board and supt...sounds good, but let's come back to the PV field, unfortunately....all speeches now about saving money are for an audience

Why are school board members not allowed to speak to administrators or ask questions to adminstrators? This district truly is being run by a dictator. What I ask is going on behind the sacred closed doors

Anonymous said...

"Why are school board members not allowed to speak to administrators or ask questions to adminstrators?"

They are 'allowed'. In fact it is the JOB of the board to hold the employees accountable. Our board just obviously does not care to do so. If they are not talking to administrators, I am guessing an administrator might have threatened to sue for harassment.

Anonymous said...

The board doesn't care. They don't want to know what is really going on. It's easier to listen to the Imaginings Mrs Zetty feeds them. If they cared they wouldn't have renewed her contract.

Anonymous said...

What? That can not be a true statement.

Our school board members darn well better be talking to various school district administrators! If they are not, as you accuse, I want this entire school board gone!!!! ACTUALLY, upon reflection, your accusation would explain why parental and student issues are totally unknown to the school board. I always thought ALL district employees had the opportunity to communicate to the school board. That would explain why the board thinks everything is just peachy and happy. They are not talking to anyone. They are operating with blinders on.

I was reading an article here that says "...one of the main causes of the deficit is the increase in contributions to employee pension plans.....Increases in salaries and day-to-day expenses, also contributed, as did lost revenue from lower interest rates."

We also just heard that the district is going out with the 'tin cup' to solicit money from businesses and families. They will take any money by any legal means. I think they called it 'creative funding'. If the district continues to borrow from it's reserve there will be no PTSD in 5 years. They will be bankrupt. So tell me why does this district continue to hand out bonuses and build turf fields with our money? It was also made very clear that academics is just as important as athletic. Sorry, PTSD that is not the reason we moved here. It was education, not athletics for moving here. If academic education is not the primary reason for a public school system, there is not reason to have public education!

These people spend hours pouring over academic test data and wonder why it is not up to their expectations? Perhaps if they payed a little more attention to what is happening academically, they would clearly see the issue with academic test data!

Yes, "They are operating with blinders on"!

Get ready HS teachers and administrators! Mrs. Zetty is now telling people what she wants the HS to be like (another school of course because you aren't ever going to be good enough) because she took an idea from someone else (again) and soon will be shoving it down your throats. I guess this will go on the list with her other ideas that haven't worked. But don't worry, if it doesn't work guess who will get blamed! You see when you keep taking ideas from others, can't explain them, and have almost no one that believes in you, they don't work.

Look folks it has been suspected for some time now that information is not free flowing in this district. The focal point has been our superintendent's crushing and intimidating style. No administrators are not free to speak to Board members. In fact, as I'm learning more, board members are discouraged from communicating directly with district administrators. How can this be allowed to happen?

Anonymous said...

Is it really true that a secretary from the central office filed a complaint against Dr. Zetty and it was quickly brushed under the rug, the secretary moved to the bus garage as a confidential secretary, and again we as taxpayers are paying for this bad behavior of our leader? Does anyone know anything as to what went on?

Dear Poster, This is very disrespectful on a religious and moral level. I won't even talk about the disrespect for the person since that is a part of blogs. But religious wise! Come on. And, if you are this happy, then your next step is probably to work on getting a new superintendent since many staff believe that the superintendents personality and method of managing is exactly the same as the former HS principal, except for one part. The former HS principal had a number of people who were supportive. I am told that the super. has very few people in the district who support her at all, including her own administrators. But because they worry about their jobs, (sound familiar) they won't say much. Now maybe you are one of the people who make a private appointment and meet with the superintendent to ask for your little favors.

H-E-L-L-O!
That is what many of us have wondered for over a year now. Did the light bulb just come on for the school district? (That is a rhetorical question-they have been sweeping that little fact under the rug for a while; especially when they were planning that new field.)
It appears the school board seems to think everything is just fine. Has this school board ever heard of the Pennsylvania School Board Association? It does not appear that they signed up for the "Standards for Effective School Governance,
Code of Conduct for Members of Pennsylvania School Boards". I sincerely believe they are not capable of, or have ever, communicated with ALL stakeholders-which includes other employees besides the superintendent.

This board does not care at all about building administrators, staff or student issues. I believe you are correct, things that are going on in this district are being withheld from the school board and they seem very happy and accepting of that-less work for them! They have no clue what is happening academically and,DUH, test scores will continue to fall.

I hear Nina was so upset that a school board member went to an administrator and asked questions for information that she will now be sending an email to the school board member/s "telling them what their place is on the board" I also hear she "reprimanded" that school board member. What I would not do for a copy of that email I hope to see it on this blog sooner than later. I cannot believe how this district is being run into the ground, daily

that is strange hearsay. you must know someone that knows a board member. if it is even partially true, it just further proves that this superintendents contract should have never been renewed. i would hope our current board members would not tolerate such bullying from a school district employee.

Anonymous said...

I have heard that there is a letter floating about from a local medical person who offered services to the sports teams. It is my understanding that the letter went to Zetty and as usual the board has been left out. Allegedly the medical person chastises the new football coach Zetty hired as he refused to abide by medical protocols and placed kids at risk. As this story goes Zetty has done nothing. But again she hired the guy in a circus but yet another one appears to be on the horizon. Maybe the Board should ask where is the letter?

Anonymous said...

It is difficult to deal with a bully. Go talk to people in Zetty's previous districts and you will NOT find anything different than you see today. We have 4 board members who want her because she does what they want so they leave her alone. The teacher union President isn't strong enough to deal with her. Notice you don't hear any more about the survey taken a year ago that resulted in negative issues with the Super. She likes to point out that it says "Central Office" but it was about her.
The admin. AND teachers are now afraid of their jobs so she is again MBF. - Managing by Fear. If the School Board can have one more person see the truth then there will be the 5 votes needed to actually supervise the Superintendent. And this will even be after she meets with her 3 close board friends and talks to them behind closed doors and gets pity from them. Zetty is very smart. She manipulates some of those board members so well, and unfortunately, they don't have the ability to see it. They just don't have the ability to see it.

i do not believe that for one second. if any member of this school board would permit or find such an action acceptable, they should immediately be impeached. that would be the proverbial 'fox running the hen house'! the school board is in charge and that is not how things are supposed to work. i will not subscribe to such nonsense.

however, one post does sound right. if board members think everything is fine, then it would make sense that they are not getting out into the schools themselves. they are only hearing selective bits and pieces that are being fed to them. we all assume that a good line of communication exists from teachers, to building administration, to district administration, on up to the school board. where is the pta in all of this? they used to speak up for education, kids and families. is pta being bullied or blackmailed into silence as well?

Anonymous said...

Wonderful. A school board and administration that completely ignores families. The administrative team at the high school might be great running the daily business of the school, but just like the school board and district administration they lack communication to families and students. It's business as usual in PTSD-keep families and stakeholders in the dark...but they sure want to put both of their hands in our pockets!

Why would the board do such a responsible thing? Don't forget the three stooges were behind this hire to begin with! Furthermore, it is unfortunate that one of our kids will suffer a major injury and not report it because Coach Rambo says they are fine and get back out on the field. Wait, he is just another lawsuit waiting to happen. I can just see him getting rehired. After all one of the school board members has another kid on the team that needs to be a captain. You will all be sorry if this coach is rehired. PS the letter does exist, read it

Heard straight from the horses mouth. Wake up they do not call her Czar Nina for nothing

Anonymous said...

Actually, I have heard her called
Meana as much as the Czar, but let's see. Last year she made the board open up all of the athletic positions - said it was school board policy - and you know she never violates that because she could lose her job. So, the head football coaches job will be open.

Anonymous said...

Wait a minute. How can there be such a continuous and constant ground swell of dislike for the performance of the super and she still be here? We all should be ashamed of ourselves for not storming the board meetings and demanding that what is being refereed to as the Czar's beahvior is brought under control.

Anonymous said...

Oh hey now, remember?......All extracurricular sponsor or coaching positions are considered 'open' every year. Anyone internally can apply and if they don't like them, then they hire externally. That is what everyone said a year ago. No policies changed regarding that so it must still be true! Five hour practices, three to four days a week is excessive. I know of the child put back into the game with a concussion. My question is, where are the parents or did they not care either?

Anonymous said...

"How can there be such a continuous and constant ground swell of dislike for the performance of the super and she still be here?"

well duh....'dislike for performance' and actual 'non performance' are two different things. how can they legally get rid of someone who is doing their job? the board, parent run booster groups, extra curriculars and employees all have their hands in our pockets, yet nobody speaks up for the taxpayers. it is taxation without representation.

the board is also obviously:
1- giving favorable job reviews
2- giving raises
3- giving bonuses
4- renewed the contract for 3 additional years
therefore, the only people not pleased are parents, taxpayers and teachers; the people who matter least; also these same stakeholders are the ones that the school board does not even bother to talk to.

on another note, here are two key words that might apply to some of your own children:'education malpractice'. ask yourself, 'is it legal for a public school district to require students to take a course based upon how a teacher teaches the course, and not the educational content, or value, of the course itself?'. if your children were required to write their educational plan and goal sheet late in 8th grade..........think about it. research it.

Did it every occur to you that perhaps the school board mandated these people to go to Philadelphia for something?
The board would not have any concern with spending our money for such a thing; while not providing the tools in the classroom for the education of children. They can just take some things from the kids so administration can learn to do things better! They will probably also give administration raises and bonuses for trying to cut costs.

Anonymous said...

I know that they didn't mandate her to go. The word is she saw people from a conference talk about their school, came back, and had one of her many knee-jerk reactions. Most of the people on the board don't even know how to supervise her yet alone know to send her somewhere. Remember, in PTSD the board works for the superintendent.

Anonymous said...

I am glad you know they were not mandated. We did not know that.
I guess we will just have to watch the board meetings and agenda's to see if she asks for reimbursement. Perhaps she is paying for it her self? (I would doubt it, but it could happen!) If so, I bet they will give her a big raise and bonus for putting forth such a great effort. (hahahaha!)
I have to agree, the administration drives the school board here. I guessing some of their kids have received some special favors or she is blackmailing them with a threatened lawsuit or something.
This super mocks and ignores stakeholders as much as that previous guy did and now even the teachers are doing it!

Anonymous said...

This trip came out of the district budget, even without a meeting where the board approved it.. She did not use her own money.

Anonymous said...

"she made the board open up all of the athletic positions - said it was school board policy - and you know she never violates that because she could lose her job."

You missed that action as that was HER interpretation of policy that at least 4-6 other superintendents did not interpret. HER interpretation was to get rid of Mr. Milkovich as a certain school board members husband did not get his way with him. Wake up she may not and we say may not violate policy but she makes her own and interprets others on her own. She is a dangerous person to our employees and kids.

Looks like a future potential lawsuit will occur, and yes folks remember you heard it here first. Looks like Coach Rambo who has to apply to be rehired (supposedly)just guaranteed his fate. Heard he just named Rich Erenberg as the football club president. Not surprised didn't Rich hire him in the first place?

Anonymous said...

A coach or sponsor can not assign anybody to president of a booster group. They have to be elected by the booster membership. Who do these coaches/sponsors think they are?!!

Do you think that was a coincidence?

ha ha the Board members, 2-3 are really showing us all very overtly who is running things--they and their spouses!

Anonymous said...

'Who do these coaches/sponsors think they are?!!'

That is true. The coach/sponsor certainly goes to booster meetings and advises parents and keeps them informed BUT it is a parent booster group. Doesn't the booster group have bylaws that states how a booster president is to be selected? Shame on the booster group for permitting it to happen. Oh well, people in this district are used to being squelched and not listened to. That is how it works here!

Anonymous said...

The way I hear it Rich Erenberg is already assuring parents that Coach Rambo will return! Did it ever occur to you that so much of what is posted on here is actually for real and does or has happened? Let's see if this "rumor" comes to fruition, bet it will!

Anonymous said...

who cares? oh that is right, football and sports runs the district and that is all the school board cares to deal with; athletics.

So? Take it to the football people or those who actually care, like the school board. The education system is crumbling down around every single student in this district and all you, or this school board, cares about is football and the coach? How sad.

December 22, 2011 2:17 PM

YES! It is very sad. Technology does not work, buildings are crumbling around our kids, but yet sports gets the money. Where are the PRIORITIES?
I know the answer. Don't cry when the PSSA scores don't measure up to Mt. Lebo or USC. You made the choice.

Anonymous said...

The 'PRIORITIES' started showing well over a year ago. It is sad and pathetic.

Anonymous said...

You can't judge everything by our scores - the community has smart kids from smart parents. The scores will always be above average. However we won't get to the top anymore, not with this superintendent and school board. Also, the climate and morale of the teachers and administrators is way down, the superintendent is running around the district telling all the building administrators she is "Building Her Legacy". Wow, talk about someone having major issues!
More resumes are out there but education jobs are scarce now so people aren't able to leave as easy as they were the last two years. The district is a mess.

Anonymous said...

I can see the point the poster is making about the football coach. Why would Rich Erenberg the husband of school board director Lynn Erenberg have anything to do with the hiring of the football coach? Is this what is really going on? No wonder Nina hired herself an attorney for the HR position she really must/does need to cover her behind. The taxpayers are really being duped in this district. What a shame.

Anonymous said...

So true, scores are not everything. In fact, some parents were bright enough to pull their kids out of PTSD, have them graduate early or send them to a school that values true academics. Most districts actually take notice and fix things for the kids when the students are not getting the tools they need to fulfill school district requirements. Not here!

Anonymous said...

"Building Her Legacy" What?

Nina has more than issues if she is running around the schools telling people who are smarter than her that she is building a legacy, really. Obviously she does not know the meaning of the word legacy. The board may believe her? The only legacy she will be leaving is "Peters to Philly in a few short years" She needs to go what a disgrace she is.

Anonymous said...

Legacy - anything handed down from the past.

'Legacy' does not have to be anything good, wonderful or positive.

If you can, get a copy of the union newsletter called The Banner. My neighbor just showed it to me. Letter in there about the superintendent and what she is doing in her continual "try this new idea" and taking away teacher time when they want to use it working with kids. The person was afraid to sign it and I don't blame him or her. The teachers are starting to now speak up. But be careful, you know Zetty will try to go after the person who wrote the letter or have her PR person find the info as these two are now going to the buildings to set the record straight! I was also told that the super has very little support from her admin. but they are scared to death of her wrath. That isn't leadership at all. It's time for her to tell them she is a victim and is just trying to do her job and what is right. I think most people (other than the 3 board members who can't see the truth) don't fall for the pity routine anymore.

Please know that I did get your letter in the Banner asking Santa for no new initiatives. I will try to do my best but it is difficult when you have to deal with the Grinch. I have seen improper behavior, heard of lies, and also have been following a once proud district that is collapsing. I found out this weekend that after the super. read your letter, she met with district employees and wants to find out who you are? Everyone is talking about this, but you already knew that, didn't you! Now, the right thing to do would be for your union president to bring this up when he and his staff meets with her, but they are probably too afraid. What a shame. Don't you think the superintendent would have more important things to do then to use her time and people who work for the district to try to find out the letter writer? This sounds like a desperate woman. I mean, what would she do if she found out? She couldn't do anything. Would she say you don't have freedom of speech? I don't know what to tell you, except thus far, there are a lot of people on the board - along with the superintendent - who already in January, are pegged for coal in their stockings. Hang in there, I really believe that one or two other board members will see the truth, the public is now involved and gets it, and if you can finally get your union to make a stand, (good luck with that) changes will take place.
