Mom banned from youth basketball sues township, school district: O-R 11-1-11

The mother of a Peters Township youth basketball player barred from attending practices and games has sued the municipality and school district.

Diane Wickstrom filed the lawsuit Monday in federal court. She claims her constitutional rights were violated in 2009 when the Peters Township Basketball Association sent her a letter banning her from all events.

Wickstrom attended practices for her daughter Marissa’s seventh-grade recreational league basketball team and sent a letter to the township’s parks and recreation department expressing concerns about the team.

The matter came before township council in January 2010 with the chairman of the parks and recreation board saying that the practices were closed to prevent disruptions and that Wickstrom was banned after she continued to attend practices.

This is rec league, which is handled by the township. Why is she suing the school district? Sounds like there is more to this story than what meets the eye!

I was going to ask the same question...what does rec have to do with the schools? What was she doing to get herself banned.

I have a gut feeling the school has nothing to do with this. They tolerate some extremely obnoxious parents at all athletic events. If anything, maybe other parents would say something!
