E-Mail from Peters Township SD: 11-16-11

Information for PTHS Parents:

In our efforts to keep open communications within our schools, we wanted to address rumors related to safety concerns that have been circulating at Peters Township High School and through social media outlets. A rumor, involving a potential violent event taking place at the school later this week, has been fully investigated with cooperation from the Peters Township Police and determined to be unfounded. There is no threat to the school or any individuals.

The District approaches all safety issues regarding our students with the utmost concern. Due to confidentiality requirements, specific details related to this event will not be shared.

Thank you for your partnership in keeping our school safe.

Directly from Wikipedia, I think this sums up the most recent alleged "safety issue" Propaganda is a form of communication that is aimed at influencing the attitude of a community toward some cause or position so as to benefit oneself or one's group.

Need I say more? Sounds familiar to me.

The school needs upgrades. Moving the office to rhe front of the building doesn't keep a kid with a gun or a bomb out. Metal detectors might.

The "rumors" I heard were bomb threat and/or boy threatening to shoot up the school.

My child goes to the high school. There was a violent verbal threat that a student made because the student was suspended for 30+ days. Ask your children. They will know who it is.

The construction issue related to 'safety' is certainly propaganda. This current threat has nothing to do with the building. This threat has to do with the students' state of mind. What is the next move, keep students out of the building because they are a threat to themselves?

Can anyone tell us what the "violent event" that was to take place later this week was? Has anyone called the media?

What happens if an "event" takes place even though it was dismissed as "unfounded"?

My child has not heard any rumors and had no idea this was going on. I showed my child the email blast and my child was baffled by it. And, my child attends the high school.

When one makes a post such as this...how is anyone supposed to know to whom the post refers? If you're going to snap at someone in all caps, at least point out who the recipient of the insult should be. Thank you.

My daughter claims it is well known at the school who the troubled student is as well as the alleged victims and has to do with a love triangle. Very sad - so many trouble kids out there. Yesterday, one of my nephew's friends from Elizabeth Forward committed suicide for being bullied and was only 17. This hasn't been in the media nor on the EF website. But, it was well known amongst the students the bullying was taking place. Where are the teachers and counselors in these situations? Likely it will get swept under the carpet as always seems to be the case with these school districts.

What an empty communication to send out to parents. Has to be one of the worst yet. They put the bait out to see what fish will bite and start pushing for more security etc thus resulting in the rush to pass the tax mill increase for the school. I am not biting just another ploy that will not work.

lets just say, my daughter said she wants to wear a bullet proof vest tomorrow. in all honesty, it really sounded like a kid that needs some help and said some regretful things in a fit of anger. i really think a lot of kids at that high school have some anger issues when it comes to the school district.

You hit the nail on the head. That never occurred to me until I read your statement, but I think you are 100% correct.

I really try to add value when posting on this site. Knowing several members on the board for a number of years I can almost read their very predictive minds as to the way they will twist things to get what they want. Keeping it mind it is only about them and their kids! I have put up with a couple of them for many years and have witnessed firsthand some of their terribly vindictive handiwork.

I agree...some board members motives have changed..it's sad..they will probably move out of Peters when they are done getting us into debt!
