Peters Township School Board Director Julie Ann Sullivan unexpectedly announced her resignation at Monday night’s board meeting, effective immediately.
Her voice cracking with emotion as she spoke, Sullivan said she could no longer devote sufficient time to the board.
Sullivan was elected to the board in November 2007 and took office in December 2007. She was seeking re-election in the coming November election.
Upon her resignation, the board immediately appointed Ron Dunleavy to fill Sullivan’s term. Copyright Observer Publishing Co.

Can someone please tell me what spots are now open for the election and who is running? Are there 5 open and three current members running? I believe we will need a write in...Is that accurate? Thanks!
Too bad a couple of other ones will not resign either.
Why would any person want to run for a School Board and subject them self to the hyper criticism of people who are generally polite people until gifted with "ANONYMOUS". Then their weaker side shows. Good luck with your "Write In" search.
Merrell, Dunleavy, Erenberg, Ritter and McMurray are running for the five seats that are open. As stated in this article, Sullivan will resign if she can not withdraw from the November election. Again, voters have no choice. There are 5 seats and 5 people running. All five will be on the board.
Of course, anyone could still run a write in campaign; but since the new electronic voting machines have been implemented, various write in campaign attempts have been unsuccessful.

Erenberg can still be knocked out like she should....and stop with the crap about the voting machines...these machines make it EASIER than ever to write in a vote. I for one will be standing at the poles promoting whomever is the write in candidate from sun up to sun down.
Wishful thinking...this post keeps coming up under every blog entry....must be a desperate current board member?

No I am a citizen who helped someone do a write in campaign the second year the electronic machines came out. In the "old" days we were able to hand out stickers to physically put onto the ballot. I can not count the older people that said to me, they would not ever vote for a write in candidate because they could not use a sticker or would not type in the name.
You don't get it do you? I am trying to be helpful because I would like to see write in candidates as well! Paranoid much? I would love to see a write in get elected, but it is a lot of hard work and campaigning. I have been there. Sure it is easy for most to do a write in, but remember the population you are speaking of that really turn out to vote.

I also read your posts about write-in being nearly impossible as an attempt to make people give up on the idea. Sorry to misconstrue your intent but, just want you to know it might be read that way by people.
I can see what you mean about elderly voters not wanting to bother, the other side of that is...maybe they shouldn't be voting if they just push any old button to cast a vote. During the recent primary, I witnessed an elderly woman who was frustrated that she could not vote straight ticket. She had a worker there read her through the entire ballot as she chose names she had "heard of" while refusing those she had not "heard of."
Any write in campaignerS will have to get lots of help at the polls.
i worked for someone else doing a write in campaign as well. of course it can be done, but I have yet to see a successful attempt. just because someone is telling you of their experience, certainly does not mean they are a 'desperate current board member'.....geesh.
Is it possible to write in Minnie Mouse, anonymous, or any other nonsense name to insure that a running school board member gets no votes? In other words, vote for 4 members and then write in a nonsense name?
I too will support anyone who is a write in and know I can get many others to work the poles etc. How about it Toni S?
How about Sandy Gregg? I liked her. She asked a lot of questions and actually cared about kids. I have seen several people that have frequented board meetings for years that I would vote for!
Sure, maybe elderly people, who do not know why they are voting for someone, should not be voting, but I certainly do not think that a 200 year old democracy is going to change because residents of PT think it should.
What are you going to do;
-tell people at the polls they should go home because you do not like who they are voting for?
-Or, they should go home because they are voting for someone for the wrong reason?
I would like to see a write in candidate as well. More elderly people take the time to vote and will not take the time to write in a vote, sadly, that is just the nature of the beast. (Yes, I have worked a write in campaign for a local official too. It is an up hill battle.)
How about Sandy G for write in? Lets get two!
You left out one more...Dave Hvizdos. Why did he vote to renew her contract, the fields, and always votes for what she wants? He used to be more of an independent thinker. What has happened?

he sold out to get what he wanted, or what his wife wanted and now is simply repaying at the expense of his integrity which shows his really lack of it.
BRAVO! One of Mrs. Sullivan's finest acting moments....we can chalk up her deciding vote to keep Nina as another moment of "acting" like she knew what she was doing! Good riddance! Now others are jumping from the sinking ship. Unfortunately three more that need to go are still there!
