Peters Township School Board
• Date: June 27
• Action: In response to a plethora of parents' concerns, the district will begin a different mathematics series in the 2011-12 school year even though the initial start date was to be delayed one year in an effort to save the cost of purchasing new textbooks. The switch from integrated math to a geometry/algebra course will use the textbook "Algebra I" that was approved by the board at a cost of $30,888.
Superintendent Nina Zetty has asked the newly formed Peters Township Foundation to donate $10,000 to help defray some of the costs.
The board unanimously approved the renewal of the food service contract with ARAMARK Inc. for one year with the option to renew for an additional two years.
The board accepted the resignation of Stephanie Saxe, fourth-grade teacher at McMurray Elementary School.
A request by Thomas Hajzus, assistant to the superintendent for operations, for a one-year sabbatical to end June 30, 2012, was approved. Previously, Hajzus has been on extended medical leave.
The board approved fees for workers at athletic events with support personnel to receive $40 per event, and constables' fees ranging from $80 to $55 depending on the length of time.
• Discussion: A special meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. July 18 to hire needed staff, and for a building, grounds and transportation meeting to discuss potential future renovations at the high school, and for a personnel meeting.
• Next meeting: 7:30 p.m. Aug. 15 in the administration offices

PT needs a newly established educational foundation to pay for district academic needs? That is just pathetic. You can blame the governor for budget cuts all you want, he did cut heavily, however the PTSD actual budget numbers and outlay of money speaks LOUDLY for itself.
Thank you school board members for representing yourselves. Thank you for blindly supporting administrative pet projects without investigation. Thank you for not representing the interests of ALL students and families in the township.
For those of you who have been around for more than 5 years, I remember how good our district was. The HS always had issues that were more than the other schools, but there was some consistency. The k-8 buildings were the best, with PV and the middle school consistently out performing community schools around us. McMurray and BH also did very, very well. The board had vision and we were talked about in the same breath as the famous Mt. Lebon and USC.
This weekend I talked to some people from a neighboring district. Wow are we being made fun of! Any administrator worth her salt doesn't want to come here. The administration building is like the Titanic. There is no leadership anywhere and many excellent people have left. But this is life. We have to stop living in the past. There are really good periods, average periods, and bad periods. Right now our district is in a bad period. But with our low Washington County Taxes and low school taxes we will still have people move in so we will do allright.
What you need to do is to stop always complaining here and GO to the school board meetings! Don't give me the BS that someone will take it out on you or your kids - that is not true. Don't vote for any school board member who voted the way you didn't want them to, whether it deals with taxes, the budget, or retaining certain personnel. Quit complaining here and take action.
